Just For Sh*ts and Giggles

I just downloaded this photo of Sam and me from our anniversary last week. I’d put it up on the post from the same day but then when placed next to our wedding photo, it drains the joy right out of our smiling faces. This one makes marriage appear to be a very questionable endeavor, which may be true, but who wants their anniversary picture to exhibit the battle wounds? We look rather uncomfortable here, like we each had on very tight fitting shoes. Enlarge the photo to see how truly stunned Sam looks. There should be a thought bubble over his head saying: Marriage is a blast, but damn is my wife nuts! My bubble would say: It’s called a shutter and it’s right underneath your index finger! Don’t be afraid to push it! (Mrs. G, if you stop by, feel free to add the commentary to the image since you’re so good at that and I have no idea how to do it.)

Despite appearances, I swear we were in good spirits. Our sitter simply isn’t used to the 40D monster (I totally relate) and I was trying to offer instruction. It drives me nuts that our feet are cut off and that we look so sour. But I love that Ruby is off in the corner, watching the whole thing. It’s as if she’s always been there in our lives, even on the night we got married. I can’t really remember a time when she wasn’t with us. Funny how the mind plays such delightful little pranks on us.

Is it possible for you to loan me about 25% of your height? Girl, you’ve got some killer gams.

And as far as the captions go, if you have Microsoft Paint, you can do all of these things. If Melanie from Bean Paste comes over here and sees that you admire my technological skills, she’s going to die laughing. I am always hitting her up for help. Don’t believe anything she says about me. She lies.

Hey, why don’t you link your column so that we can read it over here?

I love your dress!

Whatever else that picture may tell, you and Sam are a couple of gorgeous humans. Now, if you could oblige me and just put up a close-up photo of just those boots, all would be right with the world on my end. This December marks 12 years of marriage for Tom and me, so I am resigned (and not even sad about it, which may in itself be sad) to be spending New Year’s Eve in bed with my laptop, watching The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and wondering if I could find those boots on Zappos.

Have a Happy New Year!

You talk about looking “stunned”, how about STUNNING!!! You are gorgeous.

I never really liked those “forced” pictures. Those “special” occasion ones where you supposed to look good…how in the whole world can you not look uncomfortable.

Happy New Year and may love surround you and your family!!

Thanks, San.

Mrs.G: You may have 30% of my height if I may borrow an equal amount of your talent. Deal? And as to a link to my column, I’m working on that as I pimp my own blog later this month (hopefully!). In the meantime, I post it here every other Wednesday as it publishes in the paper. My most recent column is dated December 26th (scroll down a bit if you care to) but it was adapted—out of last minuted desperation—from a previous column that you might already have read. Thanks for your interest. I’m so flattered!

Robyn: Thanks so much but…I borrowed that from a friend for the night. I didn’t want to spend any more money this season. Really cute, huh? You should see it on my friend!

Cheri: I found the boots at Nordstrom Rack but you can get them here (they also come in patent leather!): http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/28885663/c/82.html

VeloCC: Thank you SO much for the sweet compliment. But really…did you look at the photo enlarged? I look like a Bee Eye Tee See Aych!;)

Sam has found himself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife — and he’s thinking, “Well, how did I get here?”

I stick with my judgment, but if you don’t like that picture, fire the camera man….
