My Girl *Knows* How To Party

When Ruby gives a kiss, she includes her deadly, dark-eyed, mojo stare.
When Ruby gets angry, she thrashes dramatically and makes sure her voice is heard in the last row.
When Ruby gets inquisitive, she pays concentrated attention to all the answers.
When Ruby gets sick, she hallucinates.

After being blithely dismissed by the doctor yesterday (not our regular pediatrician), we marched Ruby back this morning with her post-Motrin 105˚ temperature and demanded we be given a more concentrated effort in diagnosing whatever it was that was causing her to insist I had a Christmas tree on my head. After a traumatic blood draw, one even more traumatic catheterizing (unsuccessful after 3 grueling attempts), and chest x-rays, the good old college try paid off. Sam brilliantly micro-managed the fuck out of those doctors and nurses and because of it, minimized both incompetence and miscommunication well enough to finally get an answer.

Pneumonia is the culprit.
Suffice it to say, the sleep issue is tabled for now.

Wow, I’m sorry that Ruby is sick, but I’m glad that you guys found an answer for what was causing her night terrors. I pray that she recovers quickly.

See what good parental units you are? Good job, both of you. The sleep issue and worries about parenting go down in one fell swoop.

Kiss that little brown forehead for me. I’m sending love and thoughts and healing energy your direction.

poor baby. Poor parents. I am off tomorrow… do you need me to bring you some coffee? Call me on my cell if you need an adult to talk to!

  • tina cockburn says:

I hope she’s better soon. Makena had it twice last year. Yes, twice.

I can bring coffee too, or wine. Or vodka. =)

  • Melanie says:

Poor Ruby! And poor you! The blood draw and catheter process is really awful with wee ones.

    Best wishes for speedy recovery.

  • Melanie says:

Good grief I hope she gets better soon. I was in the hospital for 3 days with pnuemonia last month and I still don’t feel 100%. That sucks!

  • VeloCC says:

    That stinks!! I hate doctors…
I hope she will be better soon!!

  • bonzize says:

Gasp! What you two go through is beyond my childless-comprehension. Thank god you know what it is. Call me if you need me to hop on a plane and bring you red licorice or anything that a FGM can provide.
    xoxo
