Ruby was having her breakfast this morning and I was sitting across from her, tying my shoelaces, huffing and gasping for air, thanks to my pnuemonia which doesn’t seem to want to loosen it’s suffocating grip on my lungs. Who knew that bending over could be so rigorous?
As I sat up, the kid had one very long arm extended out toward me, her very long fingers splayed open toward me as well, and her whole body tilted in my direction. The smile on her face included the wrinkled nose—one of my favorite looks on her—and her pink tongue was sticking out, wiggling from side to side against her top teeth. This means she’s excited.
“Gwab my hand, mama!”
I reached over and gwabbed her hand and she pulled me into a Full Nelson for a little bit of Meal Time Lovin’. This is her schtick. Always, at some point when she’s eating, she needs to stop for hugs. Then she rubbed my cheek with one buttery hand while rubbing one of hers with the other buttery hand.
“We have same cheeks, mama!”
It was a great morning.

You had me at the wrinkled NOSE but you went for the Full Nelson and THEN the cheeks? Oh, lovely child.

How great is that? *Melt*
By the way, I was diagnosed with pneumonia back in November. I still have it. Please take it easy, and don’t take this lightly. It can be tricky stuff to get rid of, so when it’s hard to breathe - stop and rest. It’s taken me 3 months and 3 different antibiotics to figure that out. I also have a new appreciation for my lungs.
Hope you feel well soon. I know looking at that little face makes me feel better!

Oh, dear Lord, your child is so cute that I now have heartburn.
I’m especially fond of her pigtails. My cousin Munch had similar pigtails at that age, but now she’s outgrown them. *sniff*
