Playin’ with the haters, II

To Me, from Robby T:

the compunction to respond to your rant is fleeting…it’s funny that libs (who are so nuanced haha) fail to see the forest through the sophomoric trees. think about your vasectomy, i mean your husband’s vasectomy experience and then ask yourself why you are in favor of socialized medicine. on a lighter note, u pulled off sounding like a man-hating bitch w/ flair! imagine wanting to witness your man’s vasectomy…to each their own, i say; but then, i’m no whining, clueless lib. thanks for the laugh, hater! rt

To Robby T from Yours Truly:

Oh, ye with the tiny wiener!

Robby, Robby, Robby. You small-minded, woman-hating, anti-curious dolt: If anything is sophomoric, it is your email to me. Clearly, you missed the point of my piece but that’s hardly surprising given your inferred affiliation with the conservative club and your insistence—like many conservatives—to be an asshat.

To be clear, I was giving props to my husband for being the incredible man that he is—the kind you could never be—for navigating with aplomb our oh-so-functional health care system, which, fyi, is no worse than socialized medicine no matter what Bill O’Reilly tells you. Quit drinking the Kool-Aid! If we had socialized medicine as a safety net (with the access to private insurance for those who wanted it), then all Americans would have access to health care, we’d have a healthier population, less crowded emergency rooms, and increased productivity. People like you, however, can’t see the bigger picture because you suffer from short-sightedness and selfishness and self-righteousness and a disgraceful inability to place yourselves in the shoes of the less fortunate.

Personally, I’d like to think that you’ve had a vasectomy so the world isn’t populated by a whole bunch of little yous. But as I said in my piece, it takes a Real Man to get his tubes snipped and you, sir, are not even remotely related to a Real Man. You are nothing more than a crusted santorum stain on blue plaid, poly/cotton blend sheets.

    Yowza! That’s quite an exchange.

Totally with you on the socialized medicine thing.

    What a moron.

And *that* my blog friend is why I keep coming back for more!

Sounds like you nailed it on the inability to feel compassion for those with fewer (if any) opportunities and privileges.

Too bad I had some spelling errors (corrected here but too late in the email I sent him)…takes away from my credibility. But whatev. You know, I don’t mind people writing to say they disagree but when it comes to the meanness…well. I just have to get in on that. Makes me feel good to give it back. Something I’m sure I’ll be paying for in my next life. If there is one.

Rant? I find it hard to see how Robby T defines your piece as a “rant”! Asshat indeed. He totally missed the point and failed to make any sense to his “Rant”.

Loved the response, Aaryn, but next time, don’t candy-coat it so much, ‘K?

    you TOTALLY rock!

You are so awesome! I love your response. And being an American living abroad in a country with socialized medicine, while nothing is perfect, I can say that it works. What you said about an overall more healthy population is right on :)

Once again, you see the forest AND the trees. Too many people either think COMPLETE socialized medicine or NO socialized medicine. As usual, the best answer in a combination of two extremes.

“I’d like to think that you’ve had a vasectomy so the world isn’t populated by a whole bunch of little yous”

Says it all. Rock on Aaryn.

I don’t even get it. Probably because I don’t speak moron.

He still says “libs” like it’s a naughty word. That’s so 2004.

    Excellent response!

    Ouch.

I am not a fan of government solutions to health care or anything else, and it annoys me that this and the belief that budgets are important brand me “a conservative.”

It makes me sad that I am afraid to voice my opinions for fear of being grouped with people like this writer. Who would be an unkind person regardless of his political views.

On the other hand, I don’t like it when people who disagree with me say things like “quit drinking the kool-aid,” some variant of which is what I hear a lot from liberal friends and writers. To my ear, that basically amounts to “nah nah nah I’m not listening because I don’t want to hear what you have to say.”

I have well-thought-out, fact based, and compassionate opinions that happen to disagree with many of yours (though I venture to say that we would agree on some issues, most of them social).

I would love to be able to discuss my opinions freely with liberals, without fear that doing so makes me “a hater” before I can even finish what I have to say.

Because, honestly, I’ve been through enough to say truthfully that I don’t hate, not even the jerk that wrote that letter to you.

Yes ma’am. He is an asshat.

  • 15 Trees // Mar 26, 2008 at 9:02 pm

Prof J beat me to it. But I’m going to take it a step further in saying I just want to roll around in the word “asshat” for a while.

Ellie, you’ve been talking to the wrong liberals. And I sincerely doubt you would approach a conversation in the spirit of meanness, purposeful ignorance or sheer stupidity as (had to scroll up) Robby. So you wouldn’t get the same reaction. If you did, and you were making an honest effort to exchange views in a civilized manner, then that liberal would be Robby’s equal in asshattery and not worth your time or energy.

Frankly, I think no hue of the political spectrum has a monopoly on myopia or viciousness, and I’m too damn lazy to argue most of the time. But sometimes, when you try to play mean with the big girls, you get your ass kicked.

It’s a circle of life thing.
