Hey locals: quick question

A friend of mine is writing a story about sex offenders and she’s wondering how many of you regularly (religiously?) check the sex offender registry to see who’s in your neighborhood.

If you don’t mind weighing in with comments, I’d be much obliged. I’d be so thankful that I’ll put up pictures of me getting my boobies done last Sunday.

Intrigued…?

I checked once out of curiosity… frankly I think its the ones that haven’t been caught… the weird “uncle” or the pizza delivery guy that seems waaay too interested in what’s on your kitchen counter that people should be more concerned about living in their neighborhoods. But then again, I don’t have kids .

and WHAT did you get done to your boobies????

I looked a few times when I was curious but I heard that you could be included on the list for peeing in public and that could include a lot of people I know so really… Not so much worried about it.
I am intrigued by the boobies story, though. Please tell!

I’ve checked a few times. I guess I think about it once a year. It’s scary to look up the neighborhood near the school I work at to see how many sex offenders are living right across the street! Yikes.
familywatchdog.us even has pictures of the offenders…

Hope that helps!

I check it out when I’m thinking about it (a few times a year). I show the pictures to my kids (I started when they were out and about on their own for a bit–walking to friends houses, etc.).

We have a very organized community and updates get e-mailed around if there’s important info that needs to get out.

similar to jenn @ we have an organized community and we would get an email if there were something to know
your boobs. i must know!

I check the neighborhood each time we move (3 times already this year).

Also, as a teacher, I checked the community surrounding the school.

Somehow I feel dirty for asking about the boobies now…

I check now and then. We recently had a neighbor have an incident with a local offender (he approached her to ask questions about her son when she was sitting in front of a toy store) and it started a stir in the ‘hood. Rightly so. It’s what the website is for.

When I was recently responsible for a group of Brownies selling cookies in front of grocery stores, I took a good look at the faces on the site so they’d be fresh in my mind in case one came into contact with the girls.

Like Jamie, I checked carefully when we were moving, near the house and Laura’s school.

Hope this helps.

I just checked our area out last week and found out that since last time I checked (probably a year or so ago), we now have - count ‘em - 4 registered sex offenders on our street - all with the same charge of lewd or lascivious acts w/ a child under 14. YUCK. I made up a flyer w/ pics and posted it in our laundry room.

You got your boobs done??? I saw you last Saturday and they looked just fine to me :-)

I have. Thank goodness they are not too close but of course, that can always change. Having a school nearby can be a magnet for these scumbags.

I didn’t realize they now posted photos and addresses of the offenders. It’s weird to look at the photos… some of these guys look like ax murderers, others like kindly old grandfathers.

Probably check once a year. It has to be before noon, else I’ll be all creeped out when I go to bed. I find it very disturbing but necessary.

I live in Virginia and first checked out the State Police’s site about about 10 years ago when a church member nonchalantly mentioned such a thing existed. Turns out another church member was ON it. Since then I’ve checked back periodically - about once or twice a year.

I just recently checked this out on a couple different sites–the local one and another, nation-wide one. Neither of them turned up anyone on my street, and the closest one is about a quarter-mile away–an old guy busted for shenanigans with a 14-year old. At http://www.familywatchdog.us/ I saw more than just sex-offenders in my area–attempted arsonists, attempted murderers, kidnappers, and sodomites (seriously, how are people getting popped for sodomy, unless the other party is not consenting? Wouldn’t that be called something else?)

Before moving and then about once a year.

I don’t check. I have enough fear in my life. Are the boys breathing, they’ve been asleep so long? Do those second-hand blocks have lead-based paint? Will a radical jihadist combine 3.3oz of shampoo, toothpaste, and liquid eyeliner and blow my next, soon-to-be-cancelled American Airlines flight to kingdom come?
