bravo, and I second your sentiments.

I don't understand why we still even continue to debate this. Marriage as a civil institution is a legal right that anyone should have.

Did you know that a pharmacist can refuse to dispense birth control to women if goes against their religion or beliefs? If there is no one else on duty the woman is SOL. Some companies require their pharmacists to dispense (Walgreens) but many do not.
Kind of related.

I think you should send copies to the local paper, Smith's office, and others who need reminding of what their job is and to do it. Everybody has personal beliefs, morals, and values that differ from those things required in our jobs. Everyone else has to suck it up and do their job... why should they be any different? Just when you think things are changing just a bit!

Thanks, you two.
And, given that I wrote this last week, I do believe I scooped the LA Times:

I did not know about Smith. Wow. So, aaryn, if you and I show up to get married, we might have to sit at the back of the bus? Mr. Smith will be reversing that policy just as soon as the county gets served with its first discrimination lawsuit, if not before. And Mr. Smith might likely be finding himself standing in the unemployment line too. Let's hope the clerk at the window handing out his check isn't religiously or morally opposed to asswipes.
