It IS frustrating and anxiety-provoking. The good news is that almost everyone I know got into their first choice school in San Diego last year (excepting charter schools and the highest-scoring neighborhood schools - Einstein & Grant). I've read that in some cities in the Bay Area, NOBODY gets their school of choice, almost as a matter of principle. By the end of the process, I felt that there were enough good choices, we wouldn't be up the creek. And I really appreciated that SDUSD did a pretty good job of giving people what they wanted.
My stress was unwarranted. I hope yours is, too!

@MidLifeMama: Yo Gabba Gabba! is the best thing since Sesame Street. Something for the kids and lots of great music for the grown-ups.

@Jenn: With all due respect, people who move to the suburbs also take their resources (intellect, money, general elbow grease) that would be useful in making the public schools better. Not to mention, moving to the 'burbs means kids go to school with lots of other kids who look just like them (i.e. white flight). I would argue that there is value in staying in the city, even though it's frustrating as all hell.

This is why people eventually move to the suburbs--it's easier to move next to a good school than try to choice into one!

I can't wait to find out what school is lucky enough to get Ruby.

I am afraid of Yo Gabba Gabba. Even if it is blessed by Jack Black. And I do NOT even want to think about this process right now. I nearly passed out having to work out the whole day care thing, and have 2 more years before kindergarten is an issue, but I know I have to think about it. Now. It makes me want to take a nap.
